Chapter 1

Platform Zero

The night train appeared at Platform Zero, which existed only when the station clock forgot midnight. Ives boarded because his missing sister had sent a ticket punched with starlight. Destination: Polaris. Seat: wherever courage allowed.

The conductor wore a coat full of old maps and warned him that the train stopped only at vanished places. Passengers could disembark to search for what was lost, but the train would not wait for regret. Ives sat beside a woman carrying a city in a matchbox.

Chapter 2

Stations of the Missing

They stopped at a desert library swallowed by sand, a seaside town erased by fog, and a battlefield where no one remembered who had won. At each station, passengers found objects, apologies, or ghosts. Ives found clues: his sister's scarf, her compass, her laugh echoing from an empty dining car.

At the edge of the sky, the train climbed a bridge of frozen light. Polaris was not a star but a station where lost guides waited. His sister had become one, helping travelers who had no north left in them. She could leave only if someone else chose to stay.

Chapter 3

North Enough

Ives offered himself because stories had taught him sacrifice was tidy. His sister refused. The woman with the matchbox opened it and released a city of lanterns, each one a guide for a future traveler. Polaris no longer needed a prisoner.

The train returned Ives and his sister to Platform Zero just before dawn. He kept the ticket. Sometimes the clock forgot midnight again, and he would hear the whistle. He never boarded without bringing a lantern for someone who might need north.
